The 14th Annual Ransom Everglades Epic Fishing (REEF) Tournament was bigger and better than ever!
The 14th annual Ransom Everglades Epic Fishing (REEF) Tournament and Dock Party attracted RE students, alumni, parents and members of the RE professional community for a spirited afternoon of fishing, great food, live music and family fun. REEF raised nearly $20,000, including $14,000 for the Anderson waterfront and $5,000 for Breakthrough Miami. In addition, Breakthrough Miami raised more than $5,000 through the silent auction, so the event was able to fund two Breakthrough Scholars.
The annual fundraiser began on Thursday, May 7, with the captains meeting, where registered anglers received tournament guidelines, mapped out their course and enjoyed dinner together. Breakthrough Miami unveiled the silent auction items, a tradition that is part of RE’s mission of service and outreach.
Saturday, May 9, was the big day! At 7 a.m., the committee boat motored onto Biscayne Bay to check in the 32 registered fishing boats and officially kick off the tournament with an exciting shotgun start. At 2 p.m. anglers began pulling into Biscayne Bay Yacht Club to weigh their catch and join RE community members for the dock party. For the first time, community members who wished to take part in the festivities but did not fish were able to purchase dock party tickets. The afternoon was complete with delicious barbecue by Spencer Crowley P’24 ’26 ’26 ’27, live music by Tiki Flores, and children’s activities by Tiny Big Steps.
