Gifts to Ransom Everglades of stock, bonds, mutual funds or other long-term appreciated assets receive a greater tax benefit. You can take a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value of the gift and you are not taxed on your capital gain.

    How it works:
    • Transfer shares of your appreciated assets (stock, bonds, etc.) directly to RE.
    • RE will sell your securities and use the proceeds to support the school as you designate.
    • If you itemize, you may deduct from your taxable income the full fair market value of your shares as of the date of receipt by RE, regardless of what you paid for them.
    • You do not have to report any of your capital gain on the securities.
    • To be eligible for a charitable deduction in 2021, gifts of securities must be received by December 31, 2021.

    Important:
Make sure you donate your securities directly to RE. If you sell your securities first and then give us the proceeds, the IRS will impose capital gains tax on your sale, wiping out the benefits of this arrangement.

Plan your year-end stock gifts as early as possible and check with your broker to ensure that your gift is received by RE prior to December 31. For specific transfer instructions, contact Tony Mercadal at 305 460 2113 or It is important that you inform us of your stock gift to allow us to provide you with the appropriate tax documentation.

"It is my privilege to give back to the school that did so much in terms of shaping my personal character and giving me a solid foundation upon which to build my professional career. I am grateful for the words of Paul Ransom, for teachers who cared about me, and for my fellow alumni who never failed to help me in my various endeavors."
Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida. Ransom Everglades School produces graduates who "believe that they are in the world not so much for what they can get out of it as for what they can put into it." The school provides rigorous college preparation that promotes the student's sense of identity, community, personal integrity and values for a productive and satisfying life, and prepares the student to lead and to contribute to society.
