    2026 Founders' Alumni Award for Distinguished Service to the Community

    Twenty-five years after walking across the Lewis Family Auditorium stage at his own commencement, Matthew Beatty ’01 returned to Ransom Everglades to receive one of the institution’s highest honors. During the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2026 on May 22, Beatty was presented with the Founders’ Alumni Award for Distinguished Service to the Community, a recognition of a career defined by civic leadership, service and work that has elevated South Florida and its residents.

    The Founders’ Alumni Award recognizes alumni who through service and commitment to the community, have made a service impact at a national level. It is awarded to individuals who have been deeply concerned about their communities and who have demonstrated honor, courage and leadership, fulfilling the vision of the founders of Ransom and Everglades Schools.

    Approaching the end of his term as chair of the board of trustees, Miguel Dueñas ’95 received the Head of School’s Award for Distinguished Service to the School during the upper school awards ceremony on April 28. Head of School Rachel Rodriguez presented the annual award, which recognizes exceptional leadership, honor, attitude and dedication.

    The Head of School’s Award recognizes alumni whose commitment and service to the school serves as an inspiration to all alumni. Recipients must have demonstrated commitment to the school’s mission by fostering a sense of “community, personal integrity and values,” and following Paul C. Ransom’s belief that people are “in the world not so much for what they can get out of it as for what they can put into it.” Through their leadership, honor, attitude and dedication, they have made an irreplaceable mark on Ransom Everglades School and its future.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida.
