Six upper school math team members – Gabriel Karsenti '26, Bryan West '26, Robert Li '26, Daniel Li '28, Alex Tevelow '28 and Joshie Khohaything '28 – placed second in Florida, 13th in the nation, and 34th worldwide in the 2025 Purple Comet! Math Meet, competing under coach Sebastian Revollo in an event that included drew more than 1,400 teams. Meanwhile, Sofiya Dewan '29 was among just six girls in Florida to earn a 2025 Young Women in Mathematics Award and Certificate in honor of Maryam Mirzakhani for her excellent performance on the AMC 8 math exam.
She was recognized at the Eighth-Grade Send-up on May 30 along with Owen Zhou '29, who was awarded Honor Roll of Distinction for his performance on the AMC 8 math exam.
In other news math team news, RE excelled at the Integirls Miami Spring 2025 Competition that attracted just under 60 girls to RE on May 25. In the middle school competition, Ivy Chen '30 earned first place and Dewan, second place, in the individual round. In the team round, Chen, Maya Lee-Schonfeld '30, Dewan and Esha Nagalla '29 earned first place.
In the individual round for high school students, Sabine Wolfensberger '29 earned first place and led RE's team to first place in the team round. Ella Wang '27 earned second place for the individual round. Wangand Luciana Adatto '27 earned second place for the team round.
In other news, 34 RE middle school students participated in the Noetic Learning Math Contest, an online competition that included a record 40,874 students from 816 schools. Under coach Ashley Ernst, several students earned notable distinctions, scoring among the top 10 percent of students nationwide. RE standout performers:
