Ransom Everglades wins the 2024 Middle School Geography Bee
RE's middle school academic team excelled at the 2024 Middle School Geography Bee on October 29, posting an 8-0 record against eight local schools to claim its third title in a row. Under coach Joe Mauro, Noah Veras '29, Ciaran Clingan '29, Evan Powe '29, Rohan Harihara '30 and Axel Fraser '31 helped RE win its 14th Independent Schools of South Florida (ISSF) championship in 21 years of competition.
The middle school team defeated St. Louis Covenant School, Divine Savior, Lady of Lourdes and Centner Academy in the preliminary rounds at the Coral Gables Woman's Center. The team also defeated Cushman, Carrollton, Belen Jesuit and Miami Country Day in the finals, including a 36-23 victory in the title match against Miami Country Day.
The students set a record by answering 37 questions correctly during one game.
"That is a record, to get 37 questions correct in a 20-minute span," said Alicia Casanova, vice president of the board of directors of the ISSF, during the awards ceremony. "It was unbelievable! Congratulations, Ransom Everglades."
