The Arts at RE: Introducing RE's new arts chairs

This communication was sent to the RE school community on October 1, 2025:

Dear RE Community,

As new chairs in the arts at Ransom Everglades, we write to share exciting news about the growth of the arts at RE. We are launching programming and finetuning opportunities designed to elevate the arts on our campuses and increase the visibility of our students and their work in 2025-26 and beyond. The arts constitute a core component of a transformative education, and we believe that continued growth in the arts at Ransom Everglades will benefit all of our students, whether active participants or appreciative consumers.
We bring extensive teaching and professional experience in our respective fields, enabling us to lead RE’s performing and visual arts with creativity and confidence. (Find our respective bios below.) We hope you will support us and our outstanding arts faculty by encouraging your children to get involved in arts activities and support their artistic peers. There are many highlights ahead.

We want to bring particular attention to a new event, Under the Stars: A Night of Music and Art on Thursday, November 20; this inaugural celebration of the arts will showcase the artistic works of upper school students at La Brisa on a night the RE Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles perform on the lawn rising from Biscayne Bay. Our talented visual artists, musicians and vocalists will provide an unforgettable evening of entertainment for the entire RE community – you are all invited!

Our arts calendar is bursting with many other can’t-miss events: There will be visual arts showcases on both campuses and headline nights in Swenson Hall and the Lewis Family Auditorium featuring musicals and plays, strings, band and jazz concerts, and an end-of-year dance show. (Check the myCOMPASS calendar and filter by School Arts; also read the Sunday email, This Week @ RE, for upcoming events.)

The support for student artists at RE extends beyond our own classrooms and stages. It’s a privilege to offer the Cooper Cultural Experience, an arts intensive for talented tenth graders, for the second straight year. This new signature program at Ransom Everglades offers select sophomores the chance to pursue their artistic passions with an immersive arts travel experience in a different locale each year.

We believe competitive opportunities help accelerate our students’ quests for excellence, and a priority in 2025-26 is ensuring that arts students have the backing they need to participate in outside events that suit their talents and align with our programming. Among the opportunities on our calendar: the Florida Theatre Conference, the Thespian and Junior Thespian Festivals, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, the YoungArts Competition, music performance assessments through the Florida Bandmasters Association and Florida Orchestra Association, and many more.

Meanwhile, we are also offering professional headshots for all of our senior performing artists for their art portfolios, and portraits of all of our seniors in the visual arts to recognize their contributions to our community. And, next spring, we will once again celebrate our visual and performing artists with an end-of-year awards ceremony just for them.

We know it’s going to be a great year – please join us!

Warmest regards,

This is my 16th year teaching Theatre at Ransom Everglades, and I am the Chair of Performing Arts. I am thrilled to champion and celebrate the Arts at RE, fostering creativity and inspiring expression across our community. Each year, I direct and choreograph productions where students can take their arts education beyond the classroom. I believe in the transformative power of play and creativity as essential tools for learning while cultivating a strong ensemble in a safe, joyful space. I attended New World School of the Arts, received my Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre from the conservatory program at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, and my Master of Arts, also from UM. Prior to RE, I worked with the National Foundation for the Advancement of Arts’ YoungArts program. I am also a professional stage and voice actor.

As a proud member of the Ransom Everglades community, I have the pleasure of teaching Stage Production and Design 1 and 2, as well as serving as the Administrative Arts Department Chair. Over the past 20 years, I’ve built a career in the entertainment and theater industry, working in television production, live performance and music technology. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of serving as an audio engineer for Grammy Award-winning artists and collaborating on a wide variety of creative projects. My bachelor’s degree is in music technology from Florida Atlantic University, where I was classically trained as a pianist.

This is my 19th year teaching visual arts at Ransom Everglades. I am passionate about the arts at RE and am excited to be both the Visual Arts Department Chair and teaching upper-level photography classes. As a practicing artist and educator, I love to share my passion for environmental conservation and night photography with students. My work is collected nationally and is in the permanent collection of the National Park Service and University of Tampa. I have also been awarded a grant from the James L. Knight Foundation and named as an Artist-in-Residence at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, Biscayne National Park, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and my Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
