The annual Cooper Cultural Experience launches with arts immersion in Chicago

Ransom Everglades launched the first annual Cooper Cultural Experience with an arts immersion in Chicago for 10 sophomores – Diego Lopez-Ona '27, Gabriela Barreto '27, Felix Kulkarni '27, Alejandra De Lorenzi '27, Garoe del Coso Pena '27, Samuel Bussel-Alonso '27, Simone Carrasco '27, Olivia Karp '27, Lillian Liu '27 and Pippa Yeo '27. The fully funded cultural trip during the March spring break was guided by members of RE's art department.
The multi-faceted trip included an architecture boat tour and walk through Millennium Park to view "The Bean" sculpture; a walk to Willis Tower and the Ledge at Skydeck Chicago; the Chicago Secret Interior Walking Tour; a jazz show; and visits to the American Writers Museum, Fine Arts Building, Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Art Institute of Chicago. Students, who applied for the opportunity to join the trip, also enjoyed meals and other sightseeing together. Interim Arts Department Chair Cathi Leibinger and Visual Arts Department Coordinator Matt Stock led the excursion.

Thanks to a gift by RE parents Heidi and John Cooper, the Cooper Cultural Experience will annually offer a group of sophomores the opportunity to explore the visual and performing arts through a city's museums, performances, exhibitions, landmarks, distinct restaurants and other culturally significant venues. The goal of the experience is to inspire students to advance their own arts journey or take the first steps down a new path of artistic appreciation and inspiration.

Applications for the trip are available to sophomores in the fall of their sophomore year.
