Nearly 100 members of the Ransom Everglades community – including 50 middle school students – participated in a Martin Luther King Day of Service food distribution on January 25 that provided nearly 400 families in Miami with a week's worth of food and supplies. The RE students, parents, siblings, faculty and adminstration members manned tables on a chilly and rainy morning, sorting and passing out fresh vegetables, fruit, various food stuffs and home supplies in partnership with the Joshua's Heart Foundation.
Thirty RE seventh graders showed up for the distribution at the Northside Shopping Centre, leading RE's participation. Besides sending volunteers, Ransom Everglades donated $5,000 toward the event, which was supported by RE Director of Inclusion and Community Engagement Wendell Graham '74.
The Joshua's Heart Foundation was founded by Joshua Williams '18, who won the 2024 RE Alumni Founders' Award for Distinguished Service to the Community. Ten RE students serve on the Joshua's Heart Student Advisory Board. One of those students, Natalia Andrade '29, addressed the gathered families before the event. The other advisory board members from RE are: Aarav Jindal '26, Bryan West '26, Diego Andrade '28, Egyptia Green '25, Isabel Wesoloski '26, Luciana Pardo '25, Mia Campbell '25, Parker Schimel '28 and Ria Bhandari '28.
Many who helped with the drive attended an MLK Day barbecue at the upper school later, where they enjoyed picnic food and games.
