RE band students earn high marks at local music performance assessment

Thirty-five band students from Ransom Everglades participated in the Florida Bandmasters Association District 20 Solo/Ensemble Music Performance Assessment Nov. 1-2 at Westood Christian School in Miami. Under the direction of band directors Cathi Leibinger (middle school) and Jon Hamm (upper school), RE student-musicians performed in 32 events, earning 30 "superior" ratings and two "excellent" ratings.
District Music Performance Assessments (MPAs) are organized by the state component organizations of the Florida School Music Association. Adjudicators are trained music educators from throughout the state and provide evaluative feedback to music educators and their students on the co-curricular performances that are an extension of classroom instruction.

There is no ranking of performances and these events are not considered competitions. Music is graded Level 1 (easiest) through Level 6 (most difficult) and performances are rated as Superior (highest), Excellent, Good, Fair, or Poor. High school students receiving a Superior rating on a grade 5 or higher solo qualify to participate in the state-level MPA.
