RE student newspaper reporters win award recognition

Several members of the staff of The Catalyst, Ransom Everglades' student newspaper, won Florida Scholastic Press Association State Convention Awards announced in April and received national recognition from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for work published during the 2024-25 school year. Among the national highlights for the editorial team under faculty member Matt Margini: Lucia Corrochano '26, Alejandra De Lorenzi '27 and Sofia Martin '25 earned first place "Gold Circle" awards.

 - first place in the "General or Humor Commentary" category for "The Quest for Miami's Best Chicken Tender"
Lucia Corrochano '26 - first place in the "Entertainment Reviews" category for "The 'Less is More' Genius of Sally Rooney" or "The Moshfeghian Woman"
Alejandra De Lorenzi '27 - first place in the "Single News Feature Photograph" category for her photo of Director of Inclusion and Community Engagement Wendell Graham; also third place for "Single Sports Photograph" 
Olivia Karp '27 - second place in "Personality Profile" for either "Full Circle" or "The Unstoppable Coach Hamm" 
Noa Garcia '27 - third place in three separate categories: "Cover Design for Magazine Publications" (for her Issue 5 cover); "Personal Opinion - Off-Campus Issues" (for "No Other Stand") and "Entertainment Reviews" (for "'Monsters': The Brothers, the Parents or the Media?")
Gabrielle Bigio '27 - Certificate of Merit (honorable mention) in "Design Portfolio in Magazine Publications" for the layout of Issue 5
Nina Rivera '25 - Certificate of Merit in "Personal Opinion: Off-Campus Issues" for "Justice Without Judgment" 
Dylan Berkowitz '26 - Certificate of Merit in "Sports Commentary for News Publications" for "Why New Name, Image and Likeness Rules Are Ruining College Athletics"


Florida Scholastic Press Association State Convention Awards

The Catalyst received an "All-Florida" rating for as an overall publication; it was only one of six student newspapers/newsmagazines in the state and the only one from Miami.
